My novel (and it's sequel) are all planned out from the beginning in broad strokes. I know what the ending is and know who lives, marries, dies and repents. I don't expect any of my characters to 'run away" with my story, as I've realized their characters from the beginning and designed the plot around them.
The next step for me is to plot out the section sequences. This is a vital step for me. I've tried just writing the section out, beginning to end, and it's never worked. Instead, I plot out each subsection before hand, writing a brief synopsis for myself. Then I start from the beginning of the section and move forward. If I get stuck in a section I can just jump ahead and write, returning to that section when my subconscious has worked out the details.
You may, or may not, be thrilled to know that I've finished plotting out the subsections for the next section of the novel and am currently on track to finishing it by the end of the month. I'll release it then, along with any corrections for the first section, via Leanpub for those that have already paid (Thanks by the way!!). I will also be adding the names of anyone who has sent me their impressions of the first section into the acknowledgements. For those of you still on the fence, I will release a brief teaser on this site of the next section. Hopefully it will be enough to entice more of you to purchase Fingerling.
