I find history to be a remarkable thing, in regards to what we choose to remember as a culture, and what we choose to forget. Things as simple as what street lights were used becomes murky.
Have you ever heard of Carbon-Arc street lighting? Probably not, yet between 1875 and 1915 they were widely used in Europe and America to light city streets. Some of the lamps were so powerful they had to mounted on towers 60 to 150 feet high! Finding references to these lighting systems in contemporary books and films is extremely hard though.
